Today, May 4, during the summit of G7 foreign ministers, participants will discuss relations with Russia. This will be the first meeting since 2019, and the G7 Foreign Ministers will discuss relations with Russia at a plenary session.
This is stated in the message of the British Foreign Office on the website of the Government of the United Kingdom.
“At the first major face-to-face diplomatic meeting since the start of the pandemic and the first since 2019, G7 Foreign Minister Dominic Raab will propose to discuss pressing geopolitical issues that threaten democracy, freedom and human rights. These include relations with Russia, China and Iran, as well as the crisis in Myanmar, violence in Ethiopia and the ongoing war in Syria”, – the report said.
Among the topics concerning Russia, the British diplomatic department mentioned the buildup of military activity on the border with Ukraine and the imprisonment of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
On Monday, at a press conference in London with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the head of the Foreign Office announced that the UK is ready to improve relations with Russia:
“From the perspective of the United Kingdom, the door for positive relations [with Russia] and diplomacy is always open for us. I think that this position is shared by many NATO countries, but Russia’s behavior must change”, – said the head of the Foreign Office, answering a question about the possibility of Russia’s return to the G7.
They will also discuss the situation in Libya, the war in Syria, and in the afternoon – the situation in Ethiopia, Somalia, sub-Saharan Africa, in the Western Balkans.
