US calls summit with Russia important for mutual understanding between countries

Speaking at an internet seminar hosted by the Aspen Institute on Friday, US presidential aide for national security Jake Sullivan said a meeting between US and Russian leaders Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin would be important to establish mutual understanding between the two countries, TASS reported.

“A summit is planned this summer in a third country in Europe. The date and place have not yet been decided, and active discussions are underway. President Biden has spoken to President Putin and stated publicly that this summit will be valuable in establishing understanding between our countries and achieving de-escalation”, –  he said.

Sullivan added that he discussed plans for the summit earlier Friday in a telephone conversation with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
