The U.S. says why Ukraine is not accepted into NATO and whether the situation will change in the future

For more than a decade, NATO has regularly said that the doors of the alliance are open to Ukraine. However, it should not expect membership in this military bloc

The prospects for Ukraine to become a full member of NATO are vague because Western countries look towards Russia in this decision, US journalist Pavlo Kozhevnikov told the Ukraina.ru news and analysis website. He is sure that the country can count on close cooperation and modernization of the army and the navy, but it will not become a member of the alliance in the foreseeable future.

Kozhevnikov also assessed how Ukraine’s cooperation with the West would affect the situation in Donbas and Crimea. For example, the peninsula will definitely not return under Kiev’s control.

“Russia will not give it back, everyone understands that. As for Donbass, the issue is more complicated. After all, even Russia recognizes it as Ukrainian territory. So far, the situation seems to be a stalemate. Ukraine benefits from the war there, and Russia has lost time in solving this problem by force”, –  Kozhevnikov concluded.
