Putin discuss fight against COVID with the Austrian Chancellor

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, the parties discussed the fight against coronavirus, the Kremlin press service reported.

It is noted that the conversation took place on the initiative of the Austrian side.

“Some topical issues of Russian-Austrian relations were considered, including interaction in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection, as well as the prospects for enhancing the work of various mechanisms of bilateral cooperation”, – the statement said.

“Sebastian Kurtz thanked for the previously passed invitation to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June and confirmed his participation in the video format in the main plenary session as one of the main guests”, – the message says.

In addition, Sebastian Kurz suggested considering Vienna’s candidacy as a venue for a possible Russian-American summit, the Kremlin press service reported.

“The Federal Chancellor proposed to consider Vienna’s candidacy as a place for a possible Russian-American summit meeting, if an appropriate agreement is reached on its holding”, – the statement says.

Earlier, the White House said that US President Joe Biden proposed to Putin a summit meeting this summer in one of the European countries to discuss the accumulated issues in bilateral relations. The Kremlin has reported that a possible date for the meeting is being discussed.
