The Socialist Party is ready for early elections, although they would be more appropriate in the fall, when the COVID risks for citizens would be significantly lower. This was announced today, April 29, by the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon after the meeting of the parliamentary faction.
He stressed that the rush to hold them has already negatively affected the citizens, depriving the parliament of the opportunity to complete the work on lawmaking.
“In the coming months, Moldova is still threatened by a serious increase in the number of new cases of Covid-19 infection, especially after the lifting of the emergency, and the economic and social crisis may be exacerbated by the absence of a plenipotentiary parliament and government”, – Dodon said.
The socialist noted that in connection with the decree signed by President Maia Sandu on April 28 on the dissolution of the legislative assembly, the deputies did not have time to consider and adopt in the final reading some important social projects. These include a 40% increase in doctors ‘wages, payment of four months’ arrears in wages to employees of the state enterprise “Railway of Moldova”, as well as subsidies to national public associations of people with disabilities.
“We will go to the districts, talk with people and fight for social ideas that are actively promoted by the Party of Socialists, for our national values for the benefit of citizens and for the future of the country!” – concluded Igor Dodon.
We will remind, the Party of Socialists of Moldova came out with an appeal to the left political forces of the country to create a joint bloc in early parliamentary elections.
As EADaily reported, on April 28, the Constitutional Court overturned the decision of the parliamentary majority to impose a state of emergency from April 1 for two months. On the evening of the same day, Maia Sandu signed a decree dissolving parliament and holding early elections on 11 July. Earlier, the Constitutional Court, despite the protest of the parliament, granted its petition on the availability of legal conditions for this. Prior to that, Dodon said that the socialists would not allow the president to dismiss the current convocation, even if the Constitutional Court sided with her. Today the socialists have resigned themselves to defeat and began preparations for the elections.
