U.S. and Germany maintain controversy over Nord Stream-2

A senior White House official said that disagreements between Washington and Berlin over the Nord Stream-2 project persist, but this does not affect the allied relations between the two countries.

Berlin is reported to have “a different point of view on this matter”. A US administration official said Washington “has taken concrete steps to highlight the extent to which it is committed to trying to get them to change their minds about this pipeline”.

The official explained that “in most cases “allies and close partners” are mostly of the same opinion strategically”, but that does not mean agreement on every issue. He assured that “at the heart” of US relations with “key European transatlantic partners are the cornerstone” of the current administration’s approach “to the rest of the world, including Russia”.
