The chairman of the Constitutional Commission of Belarus, Pyotr Miklashevich, said that he saw no need to change the form of government from presidential to parliamentary, reports TASS.
“Today we have different proposals. But I have already said today that the past period has confirmed the effectiveness of the form of government as a presidential republic. And today there is no objective need to change the form of government in the Republic of Belarus to parliamentary, parliamentary-presidential”, – Miklashevich said.
The chairman of the commission noted that at present “it is necessary to improve this presidential form of government, to really ensure the principle of separation of powers, so that each branch of government implements its functions and powers, acts in unity to achieve the goals that the country faces”.
“By August 1, a certain draft of amendments to the constitution should be developed, which, among other things, touches on these issues. Of the many proposals that are currently being received, it is necessary to choose the most reasonable and optimal option, which will be aimed not at weakening state power, but at increasing its effectiveness”, – concluded Miklashevich.
