The European Parliament ratified a trade agreement between the EU and the UK after Brexit.
660 MEPs voted for the agreement, five opposed, 32 abstained. The voting took place on Tuesday, April 27, in a remote mode, but its results were announced only now.
“The Trade and Cooperation Agreement marks the foundation of a strong and close partnership with the UK”, – wrote the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Twitter.
The decision to withdraw Britain from the European Union was made in a referendum in 2016. A trade and cooperation agreement between Britain and the EU, ratified by the European Parliament, was reached at the end of 2020 after nine months of negotiations.
