The European Union must work with Moscow on many issues, despite the differences, so the channels for dialogue must remain open, said the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
“We want to tell Russia about our readiness to work on common issues, this is part of our policy towards Russia. We must keep communication channels open. We are ready whenever possible and improve our relations with the Russian authorities, if they show real openness and respect our values, our principles”, – he said, addressing the deputies at the plenary session of the European Parliament.
Borrell added that he considers it necessary to use “three key concepts: deterrence, counteraction and interaction” in relations with Russia.
“Russia itself is increasing tensions, conducting disinformation campaigns. We should avoid constant conflict with Russia. But it is Russia that behaves with the EU as opponents. The EU needs to prepare for difficult moments in relations with Russia”, – Borrell said, speaking to the deputies at plenary session of the European Parliament.
