The country’s Seimas has adopted a relevant document, which, however, is only advisory, not mandatory
Lithuania considers it necessary to strengthen sanctions against Russia in connection with allegedly aggressive actions of the Russian side against Ukraine and to promote closer ties between Kiev and NATO. A resolution of this nature, with one abstention, was adopted Tuesday by the Seimas (parliament) of the Baltic republic. The document is only advisory, not binding
“We call on the international community to support Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, to strengthen targeted economic and individual sanctions against Russia and its representatives involved in aggression against Ukraine, to coordinate sanctions policy with sanctions against those involved in corrupt acts in Russia and Ukraine”, – the resolution said.
The Sejm called on EU member states to take a critical approach to economic projects involving Russia. “We urge EU states not to support energy projects that weaken Euro-Atlantic unity – such as Nord Stream 2,” the resolution said.
Vilnius also believes the North Atlantic Alliance should work more closely with Kiev, which needs a roadmap to NATO membership.
“Practical and political support for Ukraine should be intensified with the provision of a roadmap towards NATO membership”, – the Seimas said.
