UN deputy spokesman for secretary-general Farhan Haq expects “all countries involved to resolve these problems through diplomacy”

Russia and Eastern European countries should resolve bilateral problems through diplomacy. UN Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said on Monday.

“Of course, we are talking about bilateral issues”, –  he said. – “We hope that all countries involved will solve these problems through diplomacy, and we believe that they will be able to do so.”

On 23 April, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia announced that they were expelling Russian diplomats, accusing them of activities incompatible with their diplomatic status (Latvia and Estonia expel one person each, Lithuania two). On 22 April, Slovakia decided to declare three Russian diplomats persona non grata. Authorities in the four countries said the measures were taken in solidarity with the Czech Republic, which attributes Moscow’s involvement in the 2014 bombing of munitions depots in Vrbetica.
