Germany cannot be interested in a confrontational course towards Russia and seeks dialogue and good neighbourliness with it. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Sunday, on air of ARD TV channel
“It is not in our interests to join this confrontational clamour. We seek dialogue and good neighbourly relations with Russia”, – he said.
Maas called politicians who constantly demand new tough measures against Moscow “cunning”. In his words, one should carefully consider everything before adopting them, because in reality, further sanctions are unlikely to be helpful, rather the opposite.
The foreign minister admitted that relations between the West and Russia were “very bad” at the moment.
“But they don’t have to stay that way”, – he added. – “Ultimately, no one can be interested in a serious conflict ever arising out of constant provocations – and certainly not us here in Europe.”
