Ukrainian ambassador offended Germany for Berlin’s reluctance to arm Ukraine

Earlier, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported that Ukraine had sent the German authorities a list of weapons it would like to receive “to protect the Black Sea coast”,  including second-hand corvettes, missile defense systems and demining assets

According to Ukraine. ru, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk reacted on his Twitter to a statement by German Greens candidate for chancellor Annalena Burbock that providing defence armaments to Ukraine was not a priority for Berlin, saying that Ukraine should cast away illusions about Berlin’s post-election policy.

“Unfortunately, we have a rejection both on the provision of defence armaments to Kiev and on NATO. This is disappointing”, –  Melnyk wrote, commenting on Burbock’s statement.

Earlier, the co-chairwoman of the Union-90/Greens, Annalena Burbock, who has been selected as the party’s candidate for the German Chancellor’s Office in the upcoming Bundestag election, said that she considered Ukraine’s accession to NATO unrealistic. Regarding the possibility of arms deliveries to Ukraine, she noted that “you cannot take the third step before the first one and especially in a situation when there is a violent conflict with Russia”. According to her, Ukraine could be helped in the issue of demining Donbass.

It is worth noting that the Greens are the most pro-American party in the German parliament and feature an openly hawkish policy towards Russia, in particular, the Greens are strongly against the construction of Nord Stream 2.
