Turkey may temporarily incline towards cooperation with Russia after the U.S. President’s statement, but, nevertheless, it will remain loyal to the policy of maneuvering between Washington and Moscow, believes a leading researcher of the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Boris Dolgov, a leading researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told TASS on Sunday that Turkey will continue its policy of maneuvering between Washington and Moscow after US President Joe Biden’s statement recognizing the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire in the early twentieth century.
“To assume that Turkey will become a partner or an ally for Russia that can be trusted is not an option. It will be a continuation of the policy of manoeuvring between the US and Russia”, – he said, commenting on the prospects of rapprochement between Russia and Turkey amid the US leader’s statement.
Turkey, according to Dolgov, may only temporarily lean towards cooperation with Russia after Biden’s statement, but it will nevertheless remain faithful to the policy of maneuvering between Washington and Moscow.
“The US statement can be used by Turkey to continue the policy of manoeuvring between the US and Russia, to promote its interests, to take its dividends from this manoeuvring”, – the expert pointed out.
