Argentina plans to produce 4-5 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine per month and expects to increase production to 500 million doses a year in the future, said adviser to the Argentinean President Cecilia Nicolini.
“The plant is now capable of producing about 4 to 5 million doses per month. And we expect that with the second plant, which is now under construction and which we hope will be completed next year. Its maximum capacity will be up to 500 million doses of vaccine per year”, – Nicolini told reporters.
Earlier, RDIF announced that Argentina was the first in Latin America to start production of Sputnik V, and in the future it can be exported to countries in Central and Latin America. It is noted that RDIF and partners carried out a technology transfer for Laboratorios Richmond, the first batch produced will be delivered to N.F. Gamalea for drug quality control. As noted in the fund, full-scale production of the vaccine will begin in Argentina in July.
Argentina was the first Latin American country to officially register Sputnik V on its territory. Registration was carried out as part of an emergency use authorization. Vaccination with a Russian drug in Argentina began on December 29, 2020. Sputnik V is registered in 60 countries with a total population of 3 billion people. The effectiveness of the vaccine was 97.6% based on the analysis of data on the incidence of coronavirus among Russians vaccinated with both components of the drug in the period from December 5, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
