‘Five years of fiction’: Trump says claims about Russia and Taliban were lies

The former US president has said US media allegations about Russia’s alleged willingness to pay militants in Afghanistan a reward for the US military were a fabrication

“It’s been five and a half years of investigations and fabrications. Just yesterday it came out that the whole Russia thing was a fabrication. The whole awards thing. Now they’re saying it’s all a lie. Just like everything else”, –  Trump said on Fox News television.

In June 2020, the US newspaper The New York Times published a story alleging that a certain Russian military intelligence unit was allegedly encouraging the Taliban to attack US international coalition troops in Afghanistan.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki had earlier said that the information in question was of low to medium credibility, from the US intelligence point of view. According to the Fox News columnist, the false news about Russian military intelligence was created to discredit former US President Donald Trump and declare his impeachment.
