Germany has decided in favour of the construction of the pipeline, even despite the opinion of other EU countries
This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Merkel agreed that there is a political standoff around Nord Stream-2.
“We have advocated that Ukraine should remain a transit country for Russian gas. I know there is a disagreement about Nord Stream 2. We may see a conflict here which is much broader, and it is focused on the question to what extent we want to support trade with Russia, first of all in the energy sector. Germany has decided in favour of Nord Stream 2. But this is a political fight, which many people see differently”, – stressed the Chancellor.
As a reminder, the Nord Stream-2 pipeline will consist of two pipeline strings with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
