Military analyst tells when Donbass conflict will end

Kiev has everything it needs for a political settlement of the confrontation in Donbass, but the Ukrainian authorities will not agree to this.

As News Front reported, the escalation of tension on the Donbass line of contact has reached its limit. The Ukrainian occupation forces openly ignore the earlier ceasefire agreements. With the approval of the administration of Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian Armed Forces again began shelling peaceful settlements in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.

At this pace, the conflict will continue until the republics acquire full-fledged sovereignty, said military analyst and retired colonel Viktor Litovkin. In the spring of 2014, residents of Donbass supported the independence of the LPR and DPR through referendums. However, the results of voting in the international community remain unrecognized to this day.

It is this factor that Litovkin considers to be key on the path to ending the Ukrainian aggression. According to him, if Donbass still achieves independence, and peacekeeping forces appear on the line of contact, Ukraine will have to curtail the punitive operation.

The expert also emphasizes that today Kiev has everything it needs to resolve the conflict. The point-by-point procedure is spelled out in the Minsk agreements, which just need to be followed.

“This will be considered a peaceful settlement”, – says Litovkin.

“Only the Ukrainian leadership will not agree to this, because the nationalist formations prefer reprisals against the Russian-speaking population of Donbass”.
