Two British warships will sail to the Black Sea in May. The Times reported, citing sources in the kingdom’s navy, that the gesture is allegedly “meant to express support for Ukraine and NATO in the region against the background of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border”
According to the weekly, the matter concerns a destroyer and a frigate. The ships will separate from the naval carrier strike group in the Mediterranean Sea and head for the Black Sea through the Bosporus strait.
The newspaper explains that the decision was taken as a sign of support for Ukraine after the US Defence Ministry abandoned the planned sending of two destroyers to the Black Sea in order to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region and not to provoke Russia.
