Pushkov warned Biden of possible mistakes in meeting with Putin

A meeting between the US and Russian presidents does not have the best prospects and it is unclear what good it could do, Senator Alexei Pushkov said

According to Pushkov, there have been successful, neutral, and even failed summits in the history of relations between Moscow and Washington: He attributed the unsuccessful talks between Khrushchev and Kennedy in Vienna in 1961, which led to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The two leaders were dissatisfied with each other, and in the end could not find common ground. Although they did not have the initial antipathy that Biden clearly has for Putin, Pushkov noted.

He admitted that Biden would try to lecture Putin and talk to the Russian president from a position of strength when meeting him. Pushkov warned the US head against such actions to avoid “a new version of the Caribbean crisis” over Ukraine.

“Biden has these notes already slipping through his fingers. Nothing will come of it: Putin will not give in to the pressure. If Biden goes down this path, the summit will not be successful and could be a failure”, –  the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
