The President of Ukraine said that he is still waiting for specifics on the issue of when NATO will be able to provide Kiev with an action plan to prepare for membership in the alliance.
According to TASS, in an interview published on Saturday with the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine’s security in the long term can only be guaranteed by joining NATO.
“Only Ukraine’s joining NATO can guarantee long-term security and peace”, – he said.
Also, after discussing this topic with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday in Paris, Zelensky said that he was still waiting for specifics on the issue of when NATO could provide Kiev with an action plan to prepare for membership in the alliance.
As the publication specifies, the Ukrainian leader confirmed his support for the idea of holding a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden. Zelensky expects that the owner of the White House will declare at the summit “the need for constructive negotiations to end the war in Donbass”. According to him, the new aggravation of tensions is a test “for Europe and the West as a whole”.
“This conflict will determine whether a truly democratic order will be preserved, whether the principle of inviolability of borders will work and whether countries will independently determine their fate”, – Zelensky said.
“We are already in a crisis situation. Therefore, it is important that our joint efforts bear fruit and that it becomes obvious to everyone that aggressive actions and threats will not benefit anyone”.
