Latvia calls for new anti-Russian sanctions

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said that the European Union should consider the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia in the event of aggravation in Donbass.

“In the event of an unfavorable development of the situation, I think we should definitely turn to the most stringent sanctions [against the Russian Federation – approx.] That the EU has at its disposal. This is what the EU should be ready to do”, – Rinkevics said.

In recent days, Western countries have repeatedly expressed concern about Kiev’s statements about a build-up of Russian forces along the border with Ukraine. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that “the movement of Russian troops across the territory of the Russian Federation should not bother other states, since it does not threaten them in any way”.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba accused Russia of “intimidation” and asked for “practical support” from the Baltic states.
