Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN says Kiev is interested in contacts between Washington and Moscow

Otherwise, the situation would be a deadlock, Sergey Kyslytsya said

Ukraine is interested in US contacts with Russia. Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN, Sergei Kyslytsya, said.

“Ukraine is interested that the United States contact Russia, otherwise the situation would be a deadlock”, –  he said Wednesday in a commentary to the Ukrinform news agency.

According to Kislitsa, it is important for Kiev that US President Joe Biden, during his conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on 13 April, communicated the US position on the escalating situation on Ukraine’s eastern border.

The diplomat believes that the sides can hold a meeting on “neutral territory”. This, according to Kyslytsya, could be a meeting on the margins of an international event or in a bilateral format as well.

“In any case, for such a meeting to take place, it will be preceded by lengthy preparations for its substantive content”, –  the diplomat said.  – “I don’t think Washington is interested in impromptu meetings”, –  he added.
