The British government intends to evacuate its armed contingent from Afghanistan by early autumn
There are currently 750 British troops in the South Asian republic. Most of them would leave the country in the coming months because without the support of the US army they would not be able to carry out their mission, the Times wrote on Wednesday, April 14.
As News Front reported, Washington has pledged to withdraw the US military contingent by May 1, but is likely to fail to meet that deadline. According to sources, the troops will be evacuated before 11 September. US State Department chief Anthony Blinken and US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin are due to brief NATO allies in Brussels today on the decision.
London, for its part, plans to withdraw its military before the Americans, as they are dependent on US military bases and infrastructure in Afghanistan.
