Biden to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by September 11 – sources

The Biden administration intends to evacuate the US military contingent from Afghanistan by the autumn, although the agreed deadline is May 1

This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, April 13, citing three sources familiar with the decision.

If the information is confirmed, US troops must leave Afghanistan by September 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attack that sparked the protracted conflict.

As early as tomorrow, US State Department chief Anthony Blinken and US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin are expected to brief NATO allies in Brussels on the decision.

It is worth noting that the deadline for the withdrawal of troops previously agreed by Washington with the Taliban terrorist group is 1 May. The date was set during Donald Trump’s presidency.

Last month, the Taliban said they would resume fighting if the US failed to meet the deadline.
