The ceremony was also attended by the first deputy governor of the Smolensk region Konstantin Nikonov and representatives of the office of the defense attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Russia.
According to TASS, the Polish delegation visited on Saturday morning a memorial sign at the crash site of the Tu-154M in the Smolensk region, in which Polish President Lech Kaczynski died, and laid wreaths in honor of 96 victims of the 2010 plane crash.
“For all of us gathered here today, this is a testimony. Evidence that we remember this difficult story. This is evidence that we remember every person who died in a plane crash on April 10, 2010”, – Polish Ambassador to the Russian Federation Krzysztof Krajewski opened the ceremony.
Together with his wife and daughter, he lit candles, laid wreaths and honored the memory of the victims. The ceremony was also attended by the First Deputy Governor of the Smolensk Region Konstantin Nikonov, as well as members of the Consular Agency of Poland in Smolensk, in particular Andrzej Chodkiewicz, and representatives of the Defense Attaché’s office at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the Russian Federation.
“Returning to this place, we confirm that their death will not be forgotten, and the memory of each of them will be honored with dignity”, – added Kraevsky.
