The persecution of activists of the Union of Poles unregistered in Belarus may result in new sanctions for Belarusian officials, said Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pavel Yablonski.
He noted that restrictive measures have already been introduced against some people involved in the alleged persecution of a public organization. Those who take part in the repression and give the appropriate orders will face the same, the Polish diplomat warned.
“We will not tolerate absolutely any action directed against the Poles. Everyone who takes such action must reckon with the consequences. And the consequences will be, among other things, a ban on entry to the territory of Poland and other countries of the European Union, as well as, perhaps, others. sanctions are of a property nature”, – RIA Novosti quoted Yablonsky as saying.
The head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Angelica Boris, was detained in Grodno on March 24. The court appointed her 15 days of administrative arrest. According to the official representative of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee Igor Belozerov, in her actions they found the composition of an administrative violation – “Violation of the order of organizing or holding mass events”.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus opened a criminal case against Angelica Boris and other persons. The ministry said that since 2018, some organizations associated with the activities of the Union of Poles have attracted minors to the actions and organized “a number of illegal mass events to honor the participants of anti-Soviet gangs who acted during and after the Great Patriotic War”.
It is argued that the actions of the members of the Union of Poles were aimed at rehabilitating Nazism and justifying the genocide of the Belarusian people during the war.
