Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would not allow the United States or any other country to talk to itself “from a position of strength”.
According to TASS, in his article written on the basis of an interview with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and published on Thursday on the website of The Washington Post, the newspaper’s foreign policy columnist David Ignatius comes to the conclusion that the American administration is guided by the principles of pragmatism in relations with Moscow, and For this reason, President Joe Biden, on the one hand, makes harsh statements about the Russian leadership, but at the same time is ready to interact with the Russian Federation.
“The President is very sober about two things”, – the US Secretary of State said, explaining why Biden, on the one hand, answered in the affirmative when asked whether he considers Russian leader Vladimir Putin a “killer”, and on the other hand is ready to work with him.
According to him, the United States needs to “hold Russia accountable for the reckless and hostile actions it takes”, but at the same time remain open to interact “in areas where it would be in our common interest to work with Russia”.
According to Ignatius, this position of Blinken testifies to the fact that the American administration approaches relations with Russia from the point of view of the concept of so-called real politics, which presupposes a pragmatic approach.
