Berlin threatens to abandon dialogue with the US over Nord Stream-2

Germany is skeptical about the appointment of a US special envoy for Nord Stream-2.

As previously reported by News Front, Germany was counting on the rotation in the White House to find a compromise on the completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. The German media have repeatedly reported on the backstage talks between Berlin and Washington.

Nevertheless, practice shows that the new President of the United States, Joe Biden, has adopted the tough stance of his predecessor. The day before, it also became known about Washington’s plans to appoint a special envoy, whose task is to disrupt the construction of the gas pipeline. Presumably, the post was offered to Amos Hochstein, adviser to the President of the United States.

Germany will not negotiate with such a US representative, said Klaus Ernst, head of the German parliamentary committee on economics and energy.

“The position of the European Union and the German government is unchanged”, – said the MP.

“If the new Special Representative is aiming at stopping Nord Stream-2, the negotiations are doomed to failure”.
