Political analyst tells how shelling by Ukrainian punitive forces is linked to the construction of Nord Stream 2

Political analyst Konstantin Simonov has said that the United States intends to provoke an armed confrontation between Russia and Ukraine to prevent the completion of the Nord Stream 2 project

The expert noted that the US had previously put pressure on Germany and other European countries regarding the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. However, with the accession of Democrat Joe Biden to power, the situation has significantly worsened.

“Provoking Ukraine into war in Donbas, of course, keeps Nord Stream in mind. The chain would be: ‘The Russians have gone to war again! What more do you need to understand: Russia is a terrible country? We have to punish it by all possible means, including stopping Nord Stream-2”, –  Simonov is confident.

The United States actively opposes the Nord Stream 2 pipeline because it wants to promote its liquefied natural gas, which is much more expensive than pipeline gas from Russia, to European countries. In addition, by imposing sanctions on Nord Stream 2, Washington is trying to help Ukraine as a country through which Russian gas transits to Europe.

The Nord Stream 2 project involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year from the Russian coast to Germany via the Baltic Sea.
