McCarthy seeks information from FBI and CIA on border terrorist apprehension

US House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has requested information from the FBI and CIA for a closed briefing on the apprehension of two terror suspects near the Mexican border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection earlier announced the detention in California of two Yemeni nationals suspected of involvement in terrorism.

The Yemeni nationals were taken into custody near the US-Mexico border. The first in January, the second last week.

McCarthy has sent a letter to intelligence leadership. He asks for a briefing for key lawmakers as well as US Vice President Kamala Harris. She has been charged by Biden with responsibility for handling migration issues at the border with Mexico.

McCarthy asks the FBI and CIA for information on the detainees. He focuses on the fact that “the crisis at the border poses a threat to the country’s national security”. The lawmaker expresses concern that “a number of miscreants have escaped arrest and are in the US”.
