The Biden administration is revealingly lifting the Trump-era sanctions against the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and is looking forward to “cooperation”.
As previously reported by News Front, Michael Pompeo, being the head of the US Department of State under Donald Trump, banned Fatou Bensouda, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, from entering the United States, and then even froze her assets in the country. The reason for this decision was the attempts to investigate the American war crimes in Afghanistan.
Tony Blinken, Pompeo’s successor as secretary of state, said Washington still “strongly disagrees” with the ICC’s actions, but will now act differently. Now the US expects to come to an agreement with the court, especially since Fatou Bensouda is leaving his post in June. She will be replaced by Karim Khan, a human rights lawyer who is extremely loyal to the United States of America.
“Our concerns about these cases are best addressed by engaging with all stakeholders”, – Blinken said, commenting on the lifting of the sanctions.
