Responding to a question by Bulgarian News Front news agency, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the destruction of Armenian historical monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan
At her traditional weekly briefing on current international affairs and foreign policy, Maria Zakharova commented on the news from News Front regarding the complete destruction of the Zoravor St Astvatsatsin church near the town of Mekhakavan (Jebrail) and the destruction of the Kanach Jam or Green Chapel church in Shushi.
“Our principled position is that we stand for the careful treatment of objects of cultural, religious significance in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent areas. Moscow maintains contact with the parties in each case”, – the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry underlined.
It is important to note that according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, separate meetings were held the previous day between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which special attention was paid to the humanitarian response in Artsakh and the unblocking of economic and transport links in the region.
