Reuters: US delegation to attend JCPOA meeting on Iran’s nuclear programme

According to the agency, the Iranian and US delegations will be in the same city, but there will be no direct talks

A US delegation will attend a meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme (Germany, France, Britain, China, Russia, Iran) to be held in Vienna on April 6. This was reported by Reuters on Friday, citing a European Union spokesman.

“The Iranian and US delegations will be in the same city, but there will be no direct talks”, –  the agency quoted a European diplomatic source as saying.

In 2018, Donald Trump, then US president, decided to withdraw from the JCPOA, following which Washington launched a campaign to put maximum pressure on Iran. Current US leader Joe Biden has repeatedly stated his willingness to return to the deal, but the new White House administration is in no hurry to put these intentions into practice.

The agreement with Iran was signed in 2015 by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany. Its purpose is to overcome the crisis situation related to Tehran’s nuclear developments.
