US President Joe Biden has ordered the Pentagon to start withdrawing some US forces and weapons from the Persian Gulf region, according to a newspaper. An electronic version of The Wall Street Journal reported this on Thursday.

According to the newspaper, three batteries of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems have already been redeployed, one of which has been stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. In addition, aircraft carrier and reconnaissance systems will be relocated to other regions.

As the newspaper indicates, these changes mean that several thousand US servicemen may leave the region in some time. Exact dates for the military’s withdrawal are not specified.
