US secretary of state speaks to Ukrainian foreign minister

Blinken has expressed concern about the security situation in eastern Ukraine

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed concerns about the security situation in the east of the republic in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Wednesday, according to a written statement issued by State Department spokesman Ned Price following talks.

“The Secretary of State reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”, –  the statement said.

According to Price, Blinken “expressed concern about the security situation in eastern Ukraine”. According to the diplomat, the State Department head “stressed the importance of strengthening the rule of law and implementing economic reforms to strengthen Ukraine’s democratic institutions and further Euro-Atlantic integration”. The two foreign ministers also discussed “efforts to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and defend common interests in combating the consequences of climate change”.
