Impunity: State Department says human rights abuses in Ukraine

The U.S. Department of State has released a report for 2020 on the observance of human rights in the world. A large part of the document is devoted to problems in Ukraine

The report analyses human rights policies in Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, Turkey, Belarus and Ukraine.

“Some governments have used the crisis as an excuse to restrict rights and entrench authoritarian rule”, –  the report says.

According to the authors of the document, Kiev last year did not take any adequate steps to prosecute officials who abused their positions, which led to an atmosphere of impunity in Ukraine.
The report also drew attention to significant shortcomings in investigations into possible human rights violations by government security agencies.
