Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the Chinese government is ready for further cooperation with the WHO in investigating the origin of the coronavirus
The World Health Organisation should investigate versions of the coronavirus leak from a US military laboratory at Fort Detrick and similar facilities in other countries. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said this at a regular briefing on Wednesday.
“Regarding the continued likelihood of a virus leak resulting from a laboratory incident, members of the expert group said they would conduct research in laboratories around the world if necessary. As you are aware, such investigations have already taken place at the laboratories in Wuhan. However, when will Fort Detrick open to experts?”, – she said.
“I would like to ask you why foreign media is not reporting on Fort Detrick lab. There was news about it in June 2019 but then it was gone. <…> Why do you remain silent?” – The diplomat noted.
As she noted, the Chinese government is willing to cooperate further with the WHO in investigating the origin of the coronavirus.
“This is not an investigation but a scientific study. It should be global and not limited to any region of the world”, – Hua Chunying added.
Fort Detrick, Maryland, is home to the Walter Reed Army Research Institute. It is run by the Pentagon and conducts biomedical research, including infectious diseases.
