Ever Given vessels that blocked Suez Canal examined for damage

The container ship Ever Given, which was floated on Monday morning, is being examined before it continues on the Suez Canal, a source in the channel’s administration told the reporters.

A previously informed interlocutor in the administration of the channel told RIA Novosti that “the ship was removed from the shallows, now it is being moved into the navigation channel”.

According to him, “the ship is afloat, the engines are running”.

“A full survey of the underwater part of the vessel will be carried out in order to determine if there are any damages, holes in the hull, before a decision is made to continue the passage of the channel or tow it to the nearest port of Suez”. – the source said.

The container ship Ever Given with a length of 400 meters and a carrying capacity of about 224 thousand tons was heading from China to the Netherlands and on Tuesday ran aground at the 151th kilometer of the canal, blocking it and blocking traffic. The channel connects the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
