According to the newspaper, cooperation between Germany and the Russian company “Transas” began in 2005.
According to TASS with reference to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag, the submarines of the German Navy are equipped with navigation devices developed by the Russian company Transas.
“According to the publication, cooperation between Germany and the Russian company began back in 2005. Then, under Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, about 100 ships of the German Navy were equipped with navigation systems produced by the Russian company. Later, Germany again turned to Transas and installed the Navi-Sailor 4000 system on the German submarines U 35 (in operation since 2015) and U 36 (in operation since 2016)”, – the statement reads.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense, in response to a newspaper question about whether the Transas systems pose a danger to German submarines, replied that “the government is making significant efforts to ensure the security of IT cyber and crypto assets operated by the Ministry of Defense”.
The Transas company was founded in 1990 in St. Petersburg and operates in both the civilian and military sectors. In 2018, the company was bought out by the Finnish enterprise Wartisla, but the division dealing with the military sphere remained with Russia.
