Vaccination fails to save lives – health officials report alarming rise in COVID infections in US

Despite an active vaccination process and a large supply of anti-Coronavirus drugs, there is a renewed increase in the number of infected people in the US

Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told a White House briefing that the latest weekly increase in infections in the United States was up 7% over the previous week. That means 57,000 Americans are being infected every day. This has also led to a natural increase in hospitalisations.

“I remain deeply concerned about this trajectory. Please take this moment very seriously”, –  the official said.

The daily number of fatalities in the US is still hovering around 1,000, and in 17 states the figure is even rising. Although the country is now actively introducing a vaccine, all the gains in the fight against coronavirus could be lost if new infections and deaths do not decrease, Walenski said.

Making matters worse, the pandemic has disproportionately affected America’s marginalised communities. Authorities are now trying to take this into account by focusing vaccination on the country’s ethnic minorities, the official assured
