Polish authorities impose sanctions against ships that were involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2

Poland has found in its registers two vessels that took part in the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and imposed sanctions against them

“We are not interested in what they are carrying, what they are doing, as long as it does not threaten the economic interests of our country. And these two vessels have recently stepped up their work on the Nord Stream 2 project. As of Friday these two vessels must not appear in our waters. Otherwise, we reserve the right to detain them for inspections”, –  said Polish Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Grzegorz Witkowski.

“Nord Stream 2” envisages the construction of two gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. Polish authorities actively oppose the construction of the pipeline, arguing that Nord Stream 2 threatens security and runs counter to European interests.
