Greece wants to set up its own production of Sputnik V vaccine

Production start-up could cost Greece between 100 and 200 million euros

Greece is exploring the possibility of producing vaccines against coronavirus, focusing on the American company Moderna as well as the Russian vaccine Sputnik V.

Athens is now in talks with foreign pharmaceutical companies, was reported. Details and prospects for possible cooperation are being discussed.

At the moment the main obstacle is the cost of setting up production. It is estimated at the amount of 100 to 200 million euros. In addition a patent agreement with the manufacturer and supply of primary materials are needed.
If a decision is made, under favourable conditions it will take at least a year to start production.
