Leading Prosperous Armenia opposition party (PAP has the second largest faction in the parliament) will soon put forward a detailed draft of the new politico-military alliance with Russia, PAP member Naira Shirinyan said
The document was announced by PAP member Naira Zohrabyan at the briefing in the National Assembly of Armenia on March 26 today.
In her words, in the post-war situation, when the borders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are under threat and the guarantor of Artsakh’s security is in fact Russia, which deployed its peacekeeping contingent in the conflict region, it is necessary to review the relations with Moscow to take them to a new level.
In this regard, the representative of Gagik Tsarukyan’s party stated that granting Russian the status of an official language in the unrecognized Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) is absolutely logical.
“We believe that the time has come to enter into a new military-political alliance with Russia, and we will present a detailed draft very soon”, – summed up Naira Zohrabyan.
As a reminder, following the unfavourable outcome of the recent war in the Karabakh conflict zone for Armenia, a number of Armenian authorities and opposition representatives stated the necessity to strengthen the strategic alliance with Russia, up to and including the creation of the union state with it. The need to strengthen bilateral ties in the military-political sphere is particularly emphasized, and confidence is expressed that it would be impossible to restore the Armenian army to its pre-war level without Russian assistance. Besides, the expediency of establishing a second Russian military base in Armenia in Syunikskiy region bordering Azerbaijan is pointed out.
