Cheat sheets and photos of journalists – how Biden was prepared for his first press conference

Joe Biden used pre-prepared answers as part of his meeting with the press, once again casting doubt on the Democrat’s ability to serve as president

Biden’s first official press conference was held on 25 March in the East Room of the White House. The event is now being actively discussed in the media. While the liberal press once again praises the 78-year-old Democrat, skeptics point out the president’s frequent reservations.

It is worth noting that the meeting was arranged after Biden refused to have a public debate with Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader invited his White House counterpart for an online chat after Biden unreasonably called him a “murderer. Many in the US took Biden’s refusal to debate with Putin as an insult to Americans.

Critics said the decision was taken because of the US president’s inability to engage in a debate with the Russian president. Biden’s press conference only confirmed this, though the organizers clearly hoped for the opposite effect.

Biden called the decision to delay troop withdrawal from Afghanistan a ‘tactical’ step, though he had a ‘logistical’ one in mind. He then used the word “if”, referring to the winding down of the Afghan military mission, to hastily correct himself “We will leave, the question is when.” Asked about arms control, Biden gave an incoherent answer about infrastructure altogether.

Photos of the press conference, which depicted the U.S. president with cheat sheets, caused no less resonance. Biden was holding sheets of paper with the title “Infrastructure” and talking points. For example, the words can be discerned there: “China spends three times more on infrastructure than the US”.

The cheat sheet also states that the US is now ranked 13th in the world in terms of infrastructure quality, up from 5th in 2002. True, Biden did make a mistake when he said the States were in 85th place.

Other photos show Biden holding up a sheet of photographs and the names of journalists. Next to some of the portraits, numbers are written in pen. Journalists have suggested that Biden was thus given an indication of the order in which he would be asked questions.
