Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s sanctions against the head of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk, have nothing to do with the fight against the oligarchy. This opinion was published by the Belsat TV channel on its website
“Idealists may see these actions as a strategy to dismantle the oligarchic system. Realists see Zelensky as running away from a political crisis and trying to consolidate his power on old ideas”, – the Polish journalist said.
In his opinion, Zelensky was able to win the presidential election only by “selling” to Ukrainians a new vision of a modern state, as well as promises to end the war in Donbass and suppress corruption in Ukraine. However, at the turn of 2019-2020, Zelensky slowed down and “stuck to the rails”.
“A crusade against the oligarchy is impossible without the support of other oligarchs. Especially if the goal is not to dismantle the oligarchic system, but to cover up the drop in the ratings and to give Ukrainians new hopes for change”, – the journalist concluded.
