Ukraine cannot stop massive migration of its citizens to Europe

In 2021, an even larger number of labor migrants from Ukraine are planning to move to Poland, and the percentage of irretrievable migration is also increasing.

As the RIA FAN writes with reference to the publication UkrRudProm, according to a sociological survey, in 2020 the able-bodied population of Ukraine under the age of 39 continues to actively leave their homeland in order to find work in Europe. There is a moderate trend towards an increase in the female share in labor migration. It increased by 3% compared to 2020. At the same time, most of the respondents have education, higher – 28.4%, secondary specialized or technical – 47.8%.

“The overwhelming majority of Ukrainian migrants were satisfied with their current work in Poland. The main advantage of Polish employment is the high salary in comparison with Ukraine, 80.6% of the respondents chose this item. Also, 27.9% of Ukrainians noted a stable economy in a European state, and 25.4% of respondents said that in Poland it is not difficult to obtain the necessary documents for work when compared with other countries from the European Union”, – the statement says.

During a sociological survey, the Ukrainians were asked why they decided to leave their home country and move to Poland. 70.9% of respondents noted unemployment, 49% – bad economy in Ukraine, 23.2% – lack of prospects, 22.8% – tense political situation, and 14% decided to move because of corruption.

“46.4% of Ukrainian workers declare their further integration intentions to stay and live in Poland. At the same time, 37.3% have economic intentions to earn money and return to their homeland. It is important that upon returning to Ukraine – 35.1% do not consider such an opportunity at all. In 2020, this figure was less – 30.5%”, – the publication says.

59.7% of respondents intend to obtain a temporary residence permit or have already issued it (in 2020 – 53%). 66.5% of Ukrainians wish to obtain a permanent residence permit (60% in 2020).

“A noticeable increase in these indicators also speaks of the growth of Ukrainian integration sentiments. But it should be borne in mind that having felt obstacles during a lockdown with border crossing or prolongation of work visas, Ukrainians are trying to minimize such problems in the future for receiving special cards”, – the study notes.
