John Herbst confirms sanctions against Medvedchuk were introduced to please U.S.

Former US ambassador to Ukraine, director of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council, John Herbst, in his article on the Atlantic Council website, confirmed that the sanctions against Viktor Medvedchuk, Taras Kozak, their family members and three TV channels were imposed by Zelensky in order to obtain the approval of the US authorities.

Herbst notes that while Kiev has shown its interest in forging a relationship with the new US administration, there have been no phone calls between President Zelensky and President Biden.

He suggests that perhaps if Ukraine had not featured in the recent US presidential elections, the conversation between Presidents Biden and Zelensky could already have taken place. But these unusual circumstances also brought good results.
