PRC Foreign Ministry says relations between China and Russia will develop in all directions

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, which China and Russia have agreed to automatically extend for five years.

“Over the past 20 years, this agreement has laid a solid legal foundation for healthy, sustainable development of Russian-Chinese relations and contributed to the optimization and modernization of bilateral relations”, – said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, opening talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

He also noted that the agreement will be constantly given “new content, taking into account the era, so that it adapts to the new conditions of Russian-Chinese relations”. Wang Yi stressed that the great powers must set an example of equality in “the implementation of the UN Charter, abandon exclusivity, a position of strength, and the oppression of others”.

“Relations between China and Russia will develop in all directions, regardless of changes in the world. No matter how the world changes, our relations will develop even wider and stronger in all directions”, – concluded Wang Yi.
