Polish writer faces prison term for calling President “moron”

A well-known Polish writer and screenwriter Jakub Zhulczyk runs the risk of being imprisoned, since a year ago he called the country’s president Andrzej Dudu a moron.

Last fall, the writer commented on the president’s Twitter post when Duda congratulated American Democrat Joe Biden on his “successful presidential campaign” and was awaiting “nomination by the electoral college”.

Zhulchik, in turn, pointed out that there is no such thing as “nomination by an electoral college”, while calling the President of Poland “a moron”.

Now the prosecutor’s office is interested in the incident, which has already charged the writer with committing “an act of publicly insulting the president”. It is noteworthy that all this happens when the European Union imposes sanctions on Russia under the pretext of violating human rights.

“The accused was charged with committing an act of publicly insulting the President of the Republic of Poland using a term generally recognized as an insult (on November 7 last year on a social network)”, – said Aleksandra Skshiniarts, spokeswoman for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the official, the writer was questioned, but pleaded not guilty. The accused regards his statement as “a critical assessment of the president’s actions”.

“I suspect that I am the first writer in this country for a very long time who was tried for what I wrote”, – Zhulchik himself commented on the persecution.
